Tired of living with a double chin? Dr. Timothy Abrahamson at Greater Des Moines Dermatology in Urbandale, IA provides Kybella injections that can help take care of it.

Quick Guide to Kybella Treatments

If you’ve been considering Kybella, you probably have questions about the procedure and what to expect. Dr. Abrahamson at Greater Des Moines Dermatology in Urbandale, IA provides the following guide to help.

What Exactly Is Kybella?

Kybella is a treatment used to fight that stubborn fat on your chin that diet and exercise can’t really help. It utilizes synthetic stomach acid like what your body naturally produces to break down food and fat. When this acid is injected into the double chin area, it helps to break down the excess fat.

What Happens During Treatment?

Kybella treatments usually take no more than 30 minutes. They begin with the target area being cleaned and numbed before Dr. Abrahamson injects the treatment. You’ll likely experience swelling for the first week, and you’ll probably be tender during this time.

Before your treatment, you’ll need to discuss any prescription and over-the-counter medications you take. You might need to avoid some of these prior to treatment.

When Will I See Results?

Many patients begin seeing results within a few weeks of treatment. However, it can take several months for the full effects to take place.

Are Those Results Permanent?

They can be. Kybella works to destroy fat cells. As long as you maintain a healthy weight after having Kybella, you should keep the fat cells off. However, if you gain weight, you’ll likely notice fat cells returning.

That’s why it’s important that you do not rely solely on Kybella to achieve your desired look. The injections can certainly help you gain the results you want, but making daily changes to your diet and exercise routine will likely be necessary to maintain those results.

Will I Need More Than One Treatment?

Some patients are happy with the results of their first treatment. Others need two or sometimes three to reach their desired look. And if you gain weight, you might choose additional treatments. Be aware, though, that you’ll typically need to wait around six weeks between your treatments.

We also have an alternative with less downtime known as TRUSCULPT ID for the neck if wanting less swelling and bruising during recovery.  Having more than one option to address the neck protrusion and excess skin and fat are wonderful options for a beautiful neck.
