Facial Resurfacing

With Fractionated Laser Therapy

In the 80s, the gold standard for facial resurfacing was the CO2 laser.   However, using the old CO2 laser procedure, the whole face was denuded (top layer of skin completed removed) leaving significant recovery time, high risk of pigmentation variability, & elevated risk of scarring.

Fractional laser therapy is a safer treatment that only treats a portion of the skin & leaves islands of tissue sparing.   This allows for healing from all directions.  Since re-growth occurs from the hair follicle, islands of sparing, and lateral intact skin, healing time is dramatically lessened, & pigment variation is reduced substantially. This means less risk of dyspigmentation, scarring & improved overall healing time. The benefits & safety of fractionated therapy make this a much better option. Dual 1540 and 2940 offers advantages over fractionated CO2 therapy.

What areas can be treated with a fractionated laser?

While the face is the most requested area to receive treatment, other body areas such as the hands, arms, neck, chest & back can be treated. Costs are based on area & aggressiveness of therapy.

How many sessions are needed?

This dual therapy can be repeated in 6 to 12 months if more correction is desired.   Results will be apparent after ONE session!

NON-ABLATIVE 1540 nm (XF/XD):

Used to treat stretch marks, scars, melasma & for facial rejuvenation.

The XF is for more superficial wrinkles & pigment. The XD goes deeper & is for moderate wrinkles, tightening & deeper scars. XD& XF heads are more effective & safer than radiofrequency micro needling!

Recovery:  Minimal downtime.  Mild redness, swelling & peeling will be present for 3-5 days.  Sun protection & emollients are essential.  This is a non-ablative laser.  This typically requires monthly sessions: 2 to 4 sessions.

ABLATIVE 2940 nm:

Used to treat moderate wrinkles & texture issues.  The tightening starts to occur in the first few weeks. Tightening will be ongoing for 6 MONTHS as new collagen is formed!

Recovery:  Graying of the skin will occur & skin will feel tight for a few weeks.  It will feel like “a bad sunburn” for 3 days & will have sunburn appearance for 10 days.  We ask that you shower 2 times a day for 1 week with Dove or Aveno.  No make up for at least a week.  Wound care reduces infection risk & poor healing.  Vaseline ointment 3 times per day or more for the first 5 days.  Valtrex antiviral is recommended.

You will need to apply Aveno cream, Cetaphil Cream or Cerave Cream to the entire treated area at least 3 times per day or more.  Vaseline ointment should be applied nightly for 4 weeks.

Strict sun avoidance should be used for the first 7 days, then sunscreen should be used at least twice daily with high UVB and UVA protection for at least 3 months.
